In 1969, the Museum Of Modern Art of New York presented a exposition based on five barely known architects: Peter Eisenman, Michael Graves, Charles Gwathmey, John Hejduk y Richard Meier. They were called “the New York Five”, like the book called “Five Architects”. The press called them “the Whites” because the facades of the buildings presented were white.

Charles Gwathmey uses differents kinds of surfaces to create the perception of laying, to get a clear line of the building.

The Haupt House is a modern house, located in the beach. The external esapce of the building is filled with sand. The residence looks like a boat out of water. The internal spaces are well articulated. The public and prived spaces of the building are separated and the dimensions are perfect. The modern houses usually have a good study of the space.

This house is the house of my dreams because it has what it need to be a confortable house, the desing is simple, the materials are cold but also uses a organic feeling and it is located in a lonely and beautuful area. The view from the house pool is very relaxing.

Parana Bridge Argentina

Location: Northern Argentina. Parana River Valley.

Kind of Bridge: Cable-stayed bridge

Purpose of Bridge: To connect the cities of Rosario and Victoria. Improve the communication and economy activities in the surrounding area.

Length: The roadway extends 608m. Bridge main span 330. Lateral spans are 120m long.

Project started in: April 1998.

Project completed in: March 2002.

Total cost: 350 million dollars.

Built, maintained and operated by: Puentes del Litoral S.A.

Benefits: Increase economic activity. Communicate the surrounding areas to the external commerce in a more efficient way.

Analysis
The circulation outside the house is simple. To approach to it you have to pass through a stone and curved driveway to get to the stairs of the front porch. The front porch acts like an artificial shelter, like a group of trees that gives comfort and shadow to the entrance of the building. The interior of the house is nice and coherent. The interior spaces are separated from the outside by the porch which acts like a transition area. The public spaces are in the front of the first plan, and in the back are the family spaces, like the kitchen and the family room. The personal spaces are in the second plan. The kind of rhythm used was the repetition of spaces and shapes.

About Montreal

I always thought that the northern cities were cold and boring. In the case of Montreal, maybe it’s cold but definitely it is not a boring city. I was amazed by the quantity and diversity of the activities that take place there. Maybe the life and emotion are the result of the combination of the cultures that decided to live there, but it’s certainly something magic about Montreal, now it had become another city that I want to visit.

Rhythm and Ritual: A Motive for Design

The article explains the point of view of a firm of architects called USC Solar Studio. This firm gives a solid point of view about the problem of considering that architecture and location do not have to be related to be right and meaningful. This dilemma is based on the thought of some architects that believe architecture should be suitable or valid in any place in the world, regarding where it is created.

This studio explains that nature has its own Rhythm and Rituals that affect the human life, and if someone has to enjoy the place where he lives, he has to understand the signs that nature gives to avoid depending on machines to make life easier.

I agreed with the USC Solar Studio because although modernism has created a universal language, every place in the world has specific characteristics regarding the temperature, altitude, topography, etc., that changes the needs of the people living there. An easier way to appreciate this idea is to design a house and try to locate it on any possible place in the world, even over water.You have to make some changes to create a house suitable and do an effort to make a good design.
